The Cirkit of Mythos gears up for another round of over the top art mayhem with their new exhibition, Noble Savages at MFA Gallery.

An early play on the concept of the outsider, untainted by civilization and living under his own inner rule, the term ‘noble savage’ emerged in the 19th century as an expression of naïveté used to describe the native and exotic ‘other’ during the periods of colonial expansion. Winking at the inappropriate nature and archaic language that brought forth such a term, the boys make playful mockery of it by embracing their stance as artists who live in a 21st century technologically advanced age, yet willfully standing apart and gleefully wallowing in their own iconoclasm.

The Cirkit of Mythos is led by Arlington mid-cities based founding member Omar Hernandez, whose graphic pop constructions utilize contemporary digital techniques, even as they point out the apocalyptic direction of such technologies, and leaving subtle hints of a primeval perfection that might yet re-emerge.

Joining him from the west side, Ft. Worth, comes Eddy Rawlinson, generating iconic paintings that glorify the biker and rebel outsider, rendered in super saturated colors reminiscent of psychedelic poster art.

Oak Cliff artist and gallery owner ‘Big’ Steve Cruz provides comic relief with his hand-painted sequential narratives of deities and lovers caught in a never-ending series of antics depicting ‘love gone wrong’, lending belly laughs and pathos to the romantic image of the exoticism.

And newest recruit, Dallas-based Randall Garrett debuts a series of new photo works based on performance characters, presenting alternately deadpan and humorous archetypes of the self, as dredged up from the shadowy depths of the unconscious.

In conjunction with the opening at MFA Gallery, Wordspace will feature a spoken word set by Randall Garrett, beginning at 8 pm, accompanied by the eclectic sounds of the Inferno Texino combo, fronted by Andy Don Emmons and Clay Stinnett, and featuring their current foray into dirty swamp blues. Expect costumes, masks, and other hi-jinx to ensue.
